The "Accessibility Practice" Construction Kit

Presenters: Danielle_Sheffler

Did you know that with the increase in mobile usage and services like Alexa and Echo that accessibility doesn't only matter for those with disabilities?

We often talk about how to make our platforms accessible and what manual and automated tools we can use to meet accessibility best practices. But how do we deal with the pushback when an organization and its staff don't understand the importance of accessibility or our clients don't have much budget for what they consider to be extras? Or what if there isn't pushback but you don't know where to start when creating an accessibility practice?

In this session, we'll cover the following:

  • Basics of accessibility and what the difference is between 508, WCAG Levels A, AA, and AAA, and ADA
  • Why accessibility should be included in every project
  • How to convince your organization that accessibility is important
  • What you need to build an accessibility practice within the organization, such as team members, documentation, and training
  • What you can give our clients who don't have a budget for accessibility
